Sensitizing teachers to Inclusive Teaching-Learning environment and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is essential for holistic student development. Effective sensitization shifts teacher mindsets from mere curriculum delivery to nurturing empathy, understanding diverse needs, and building safe spaces where all learners can thrive. With this perspective, a session was conducted on 24th June,2026 at Shri Ram Global School, Lucknow by the school’s Health & Wellness Counsellor Ms Diksha Singh and the Special Educator Ms Raina Pandey.
The session began with an ice breaking game of Musical Chair with a twist Walk in my Shoe which conveyed a message that stepping into someone’s shoe is not as easy in the same manner as dealing with diverse learners of a class (Autism Spectrum, ADHD, Dyslexia, Slow and Gifted learners. Further the five core competencies of SEL, that the teachers must internalize were discussed viz. –
Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, Responsible Decision-Making.
Every student, regardless of background, socioeconomic status, language, or ability should have access to education that values diversity, fosters a sense of belonging, and empowers all learners to thrive for knowledge.
During the session activities like Effective Communication, Breaking the Barrier and Role Play, were also conducted for a better and comprehensive understanding.
The session ended with a message “Small practices can create lasting impacts”
Inclusive education and SEL is important because it promotes diversity, equity, and social justice. It recognizes that every student is unique and has different learning needs. Inclusive education also helps to build a sense of community and belonging amongst students, which can lead to better academic and social outcomes.
